KERRVILLE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran and Schreiner split a non-conference baseball doubleheader Saturday in Kerrville with Schreiner taking a 5-4 win in the early game and TLU posting a 6-0 victory in the late.
TLU's record now stands at 10-5. Schreiner's record is 6-11. TLU took two of three from the Mountaineers in the three-game series. The Bulldogs won 5-1 on Friday in Kerrville.
In the early game, Schreiner rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the fifth to win 5-4 in the seven-inning contest. The Mountaineers scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
The Mountaineers scored the winning run in the seventh on an RBI single from Caleb Veteto.
In the late game, TLU senior right-hander
Kellen McGriff (Humble/Humble) improved to 2-0 with a complete-game shutout. McGriff scattered seven hits and struck out six without issuing a walk.
Keaton Bohrmann (San Antonio/Johnson) went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, and
Tyler Carollo (Houston/Waltrip) went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Tony Gennusa (Kingwood/Kingwood) collected two hits, scored two runs and drove in a run in the first game.
The Bulldogs return to Katt-Isbel Field for a 2 p.m. Wednesday non-conference game against DeSales (Pa.).
