TLU Women's Basketball earns hard-fought 58-52 win at U of Dallas

IRVING, Texas -- Texas Lutheran saw its 11-point halftime lead turn into a three-point second-half deficit, but the Bulldogs persevered against University of Dallas on Friday evening to post a 58-52 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory.

Trailing by three with 5:08 to play in UD's Maher Athletic Center, Chelsey Stolle (Falls City/Falls City) and Taylor Dydalewicz (Dripping Springs/Lake Travis) produced back-to-back baskets to put TLU up one with 4:09 remaining.

After UD reclaimed the lead by one, Dydalewicz made a layup with 2:47 to play to give TLU a one-point advantage. TLU would not trail again.

Karisa Cantu (San Antonio/MacArthur) made five free throws in the closing seconds to give the Bulldogs their final cushion.

TLU won its seventh-straight game and improved to 16-5 overall and to 8-2 in the SCAC. UD dropped to 11-10 overall and to 3-7 in the SCAC.

The Bulldogs collected a 16th win in a season for the first time since 1998-99.

TLU remained a game behind Trinity in the SCAC race for the top seed at the conference tournament.

Against the Crusaders on Friday, the Bulldogs survived a shooting night that produced a 3-for-19 performance from the three-point line. TLU hit just 32.8 percent overall from the field.

Still, the TLU defense limited Dallas to 30.9 percent shooting overall and to two three-point field goals made.

Cantu hit 12 of 14 free throws and made three of her seven shots from the floor to score a game-high 18. The junior point guard added four rebounds and three assists.

Dydalewicz registered a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Five of her rebounds came on the offensive glass.

Stolle blocked four shots, scored six points, and collected eight rebounds.

TLU next travels to Colorado Springs, Colo. for Sunday's 2 p.m. MST / 3 p.m. CST conference game with Colorado College. TLU will have a live audio webcast on tlubulldogs.com from Colorado College.
