Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Season-best shooting night powers Men's Basketball past Dallas Christian

SEGUIN â€" The Texas Lutheran men's basketball team shot a season-high 63.5 percent and ended its seven-game home losing streak, defeating Dallas Christian 87-69 in the Bulldogs' home finale on Tuesday night.

The win improved the Bulldogs' record to 9-15 overall (3-10 SCAC) and helped end the home portion of their schedule on a high note. The loss dropped Dallas Christian to 10-18 on the year.

The Bulldogs were absolutely on fire all game on its way to a season-best performance. The second half was a perfect way to close out the home schedule as they shot a scorching 71 percent, missing just seven shots in the entire half (17-of-24).

Whenever a team shoots as well as the Bulldogs did from the field, most players will come away with gaudy shooting percentages as well, but Joshua Alderman stood out from the pack in a career night. Alderman (Needville, Texas) finished with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 2-of-4 shooting from three-point land. Those 20 points doubled his previous career high. The junior also added a career-high six assists, leading the team in that category.

Right alongside Alderman's big night, Garrett Wilkins (Austin, Texas) continued his recent scoring surge by tying Alderman for the team lead with 20 points. Tuesday marked the fourth straight double-digit scoring effort and second 20-plus point performance in the last three. The junior finished 6-of-10 from the floor and found himself at the free throw line plenty, making 7-of-10 from the charity stripe.

Troy Griffith (San Antonio, Texas) was the other Bulldog to finish in double digits, scoring 13 points while pulling down five rebounds and dishing out five rebounds.

While the offense was flowing in abundance, the Bulldog defense wasn't too shabby either, holding the Crusaders to 34 percent shooting on the game. The three-point defense was outstanding as Dallas Christian was held to just 4-of-22 from behind the arc.

The only reason the score wasn't even more lopsided was the Crusader's dominance on the glass. While the Bulldogs outrebounded the Crusaders 40-38 overall, Dallas Christian tallied 20 offensive rebounds and 25 second-chance points compared to six offensive boards and 15 second-chance points for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs continually pushed the pace against the Crusaders, piling up 16 fast-break points compared to six for Dallas Christian. In the first half, the Bulldogs raced out to 14 fast-break points as they build a lead as large as 17.

Texas Lutheran will wrap up the regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 2 p.m. road contest against Schreiner. The Bulldogs will be looking to carry the momentum gained from Tuesday's win into Saturday and the rest of the SCAC Tournament.
