SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball won its 10th straight game with a 70-56 home win over Southwestern on Saturday and secured the top seed in the upcoming Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships when Trinity fell at Schreiner.
TLU improved to 19-5 overall and to 11-2 in the SCAC. TLU will be the top seed in the conference tournament and will open the tournament on Feb. 28 against the No. 8 seed Centenary Ladies.
The losses by Trinity and Southwestern moved the Tigers and Pirates to 9-4 in the SCAC. Schreiner also holds a 9-4 mark in the SCAC.
TLU has one game remaining in the regular season. The Bulldogs face Schreiner next Saturday in Kerrville, Texas. Tip time is set for 4 p.m. in Schreiner's Edington Gym.
In the win over Southwestern, TLU opened a 42-20 lead at the half by shooting 43.8 percent and holding the Pirates to 19.4 percent.
The Bulldogs led by as many as 25 midway through the second half.
Kristen Lye (San Antonio/Clark) and
Taylor Dydalewicz (Dripping Springs/Lake Travis) each scored 13 for TLU, and
Savannah Hight (San Antonio/Brandeis) added 12. Lye contributed six rebounds, and Hight collected four rebounds.
TLU point guard
Karisa Cantu (San Antonio/MacArthur) grabbed a team-best eight rebounds and recorded four points, four assists and two steals.
For Southwestern, Chelsea Leeder and Jordan Owens scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, and Annie Bourne registered 21 rebounds.
