IRVING, Texas â€" The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team outshot the University of Dallas 9-1 in the second half, but the second-half surge couldn't overcome an early deficit. The Bulldogs dropped a Sunday road battle 1-0 to the Crusaders.
Â
The game's only goal came in the 31st minute. An increase in Dallas pressure, including three shots in a three-minute span, resulted in a goal from Colton Allen. The score was assisted by Matthew Wise.
Â
The loss dropped the Bulldogs' record to 4-5-2 overall and 2-4-1 in SCAC action, while Dallas improved to 6-5 overall and 2-4 in the SCAC.
Â
After giving up the first-half goal, Texas Lutheran came out for the second half pushing hard to find an equalizer. It controlled play throughout the final 45 minutes, holding Dallas to just one shot while taking nine of its own.
Â
The pressure was immediate for the Bulldogs, as they took six shots in the second half's first 32 minutes. Unfortunately, just one of those six shots was on target, and it was saved by Dallas's P.J. Hasson.
Â
The Bulldogs ended up outshooting Dallas 16-10 for the game. They also tallied four shots on goal compared to three for the Crusaders. Corner kicks, another way to judge which team controlled play, also went the Bulldogs way. They tallied six corners while Dallas had just one.
Â
TLU keeper
Jonathan Michael (Coppell, Texas) allowed the first-half goal, but also made two saves on the day.
Â
Isaac Lopez (Round Rock, Texas) and
Andrew Welsch (Amarillo, Texas) led the team with three shots each. Three other Bulldogs tallied two shots apiece.
Â
Texas Lutheran will not have long to wait for a rematch with the Crusaders. With the first half of the SCAC schedule over, the slate flips with Austin College and Dallas, the two teams TLU played this weekend, coming to Seguin next week. The Bulldogs host Austin College at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10 and Dallas at noon on Sunday.Â
