Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Vatuna's OT goal provides Women's Soccer with thrilling win over Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. â€" Taylor Vatuna picked a perfect time to score her first goal of the season, scoring in the 99th minute to give the Texas Lutheran women's soccer team a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over Centenary on Friday.

The goal came off a deflection, but was a well-earned result after the Bulldogs had outshot the Ladies 19-2 after the first half.

The win improved the Bulldogs' record to 8-8-1 overall and 7-4 in the SCAC. Perhaps most importantly, the win kept them neck-and-neck with Dallas for the second seed in the conference tournament.

The Bulldogs fell behind early, as Hannah Bate scored in the 19th minute to put the Ladies ahead 1-0. After the goal, the Bulldogs began scrapping their way back into it, getting off four shots the remainder of the half.

The results didn't start coming in until the second half though, courtesy of Marisol Ramos (San Antonio, Texas). The freshman evened the score in the 57th minute with her second goal of the season. The goal came on a cross from Sioned Kirkpatrick (San Antonio, Texas), giving her a team-leading five helpers on the year.

The shots kept on coming for the Bulldogs after the Ramos goal, as they ended up outshooting the Ladies 16-2 in the second half. The pressure mounted, with the Bulldogs getting three shots off in the final 90 seconds of regulation, but none found the back of the net.

The Bulldogs ended up outshooting the Ladies 24-6. Eleven of those TLU shots were on target, while three were on goal for Centenary.

Sophomore Erin Rose (San Antonio, Texas) recorded the win in net for the Bulldogs. The keeper made two saves on the night, one coming in the first half and one coming in the second.

Texas Lutheran has just one game remaining in its regular-season schedule. Next Friday will be Senior Day for the Bulldogs, as they play host to Schreiner in a 3 p.m. kickoff. Live video and live stats will be available via tlubulldogs.com.
