Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late goal hands Men's Soccer tough-luck loss

SEGUIN â€" Despite controlling play for much of the game and outshooting its opponent, a late second-half goal sent the Texas Lutheran men's soccer team home with a hard-luck 1-0 loss to the University of Dallas on Sunday.

After the Bulldogs had held possession for most of the game in Dallas territory, the Crusaders capitalized on a counter-attack. Matthew Wise scored in the 79th minute to put the Crusaders ahead.

The loss dropped the Bulldogs record to 5-6-2 overall and 3-5-1 in the SCAC. Dallas improved to 8-5 overall and 4-4 in the SCAC with the win.

Texas Lutheran ended up outshooting the Crusaders 18-12 for the game, notching eight shots on goal compared to seven for Dallas. The Bulldogs continued to increase the pressure as the game went on, coming up with 12 shots in the second half. Unfortunately, the combination of Dallas goalkeepers P.J. Hasson and Tino Gamueda came up with six second-half saves to keep the Bulldogs at bay.

The shots were well distributed for TLU, with six players tallying two shots each. Twelve different Bulldogs recorded at least one shot on Sunday.

Texas Lutheran keeper Jonathan Michael made six saves in the game, three in each half. His best save came late in the second half after Dallas had already taken the lead. He came up with a huge stop on a Dallas breakaway to keep the Bulldogs in it.

The Bulldogs will continue home play next weekend with another pair of crucial SCAC contests. They will take on Southwestern at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 before closing the weekend against No. 3 Trinity at noon on Sunday. Live video and live stats will be available via tlubulldogs.com.
