Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late run hurts Men's Basketball in home loss to Dallas

SEGUIN â€" The Texas Lutheran men's basketball team fell victim to a late-game run from Dallas in its 67-57 loss Friday night against the Crusaders inside Memorial Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs, holding an eight-point advantage with less than eight minutes to go, couldn't finish the game off as Dallas closed the contest on a 21-3 run with the Bulldogs not hitting a field goal the rest of the way.

The loss was TLU's seventh straight and moved the Bulldogs' record to 5-9 on the year and 0-4 in SCAC play. The win improved Dallas to 8-6 overall and 2-2 in conference action.

Dallas was led by Ross Davidson, who scored 10 of his 30 points during that game-defining run.

The Bulldogs were held to 35 percent shooting for the game and 33 percent in the second half. The big difference was the way the Crusaders shot the ball in the second half. After shooting 43 percent in the first half, Dallas caught fire, making 50 percent of its field goals in the second 20 minutes.

The Bulldogs were led by three players in double figures. Troy Griffith (San Antonio, Texas) led the team with 14 points, eight of which came in the second half. Both Robert Watson Jr. (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Garrett Wilkins (Austin, Texas) scored 13 points.

Griffith did almost all of his damage from the three-point line, making all four of his attempts from deep. He also chipped in with five rebounds on the night.

Joseph Richardson poured in seven points, while no other Bulldog scored more than four.

Dallas jumped out to the early advantage, opening up a 14-6 lead early on. The Bulldogs scrapped their way back into things though, eventually evening the score back up with a Troy Griffith 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer.

After halftime, the two teams traded buckets for the first nine minutes of the second half, but with the score tied at 40, the Bulldogs ran off 10 straight points to build what would turn out to be their largest lead of the game with just over nine minutes to go.

The Bulldogs still held an eight-point lead after a Richardson layup with 7:59 remaining, but that layup would turn out to be their last field goal as the Dallas defense clamped down for the stretch run.

Texas Lutheran is back in action tomorrow. The Bulldogs will be looking to snap their losing streak against No. 25 Colorado College at 4 p.m. inside Memorial Gymnasium.
