SEGUIN â€" The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team jumped out front early Saturday afternoon and never looked back after a 2-0 home win over Concordia on Gustafson Field.
Freshman
Colin Nunley (Keller, Texas) drew a foul inside the box and earned a penalty kick in just the sixth minute of action. The chance was taken and finished off by
Isaac Lopez (Round Rock, Texas), who knocked the penalty kick into the lower corner to give the Bulldogs an early lead.
Not long after,
Lalo Ramirez (Round Rock, Texas) gave the Bulldogs a cushion by heading home a corner kick served up by
Gabriel Sosa (Leaner, Texas). The goal came in the 19th minute and was Ramirez's third in as many matches. It was Sosa's second assist on the year with both assists coming on Ramirez goals.
With the win, Texas Lutheran made it three straight to start the season, improving its record to 3-0. Concordia Texas dropped to 0-2 in the young season.
The Bulldogs defense continued its run of strong form, tallying its second consecutive shutout. Through the season's first three matches, the Bulldogs have allowed just one goal.
Sophomore
Jonathan Michael (Coppell, Texas) was credited with the win in goal and played the first 72 minutes. Freshman
Justin Lee finished out the game in goal for the Bulldogs.
Texas Lutheran outshot the Tornados 14-7 and had four shots on goal compared to three for Concordia.
The Bulldogs will look to keep this early-season hot streak going as they open up their inaugural SCAC season at home against Schreiner at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13.
