SEGUIN â€" A penalty kick early in the second half proved to be the game winner as the Texas Lutheran men's soccer team fell 2-0 at home Sunday to Colorado College.

The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 5-3 on the year and 2-3 in SCAC play. Sunday's loss to Colorado College was the first home loss of the year for Texas Lutheran.

The Bulldogs knew that Colorado College, which is undefeated (5-0) in SCAC play, would provide some stiff competition, but they battled the Tigers to a 0-0 draw in the first half. TLU did a good job of keeping things scoreless despite being outshot 9-1 in the half.

Goalkeeper
Jonathan Michael (Coppell, Texas) made four saves in the opening half. He ended the game with nine saves, one off his season high which came in the season opener against LeTourneau.

After ending the first half tied at zero, Colorado College gained the match's first great scoring opportunity with a penalty kick in the 50th minute. Brandon Ogilvie converted to put the Tigers up 1-0.

The second goal came in the 69th minute when Caden MacKenzie picked up a rebound off a another Colorado College shot and put it into the back of the net.

For the game, Texas Lutheran was outshot 18-9, although in the second half the offense was much more active, tallying eight total shots and three on goal.

Arguably the best scoring chance for the Bulldogs came late when
Andrew Welsch (Amarillo, Texas) found some space and floated a shot high. The attempt was pushed over the crossbar by the Colorado College keeper.

Texas Lutheran will head back out on the road for two more SCAC matches next weekend. Things kick off at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 against Centenary before the Bulldogs take on Austin College at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6.
