TLU Women's Basketball delivers 84-61 home-opener victory over Northwood (Texas)



SEGUIN, Texas -- In its home-opener for 2013-14, the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs rolled to an 84-61 non-conference win over Northwood (Texas) in Memorial Gymnasium.

TLU, playing out of the NCAA Divison III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, improved to 3-2 overall. The Bulldogs have won two in a row.

Northwood, a member of the NAIA and the Sooner Athletic Conference, dropped to 5-3 overall.

The Bulldogs' bench produced three double-digit scorers and out-scored the Northwood bench 57-30.

First-year players Kristen Lye (San Antonio/Clark) and Savannah Hight (San Antonio/Brandeis) combined for 29 points and 19 rebounds. Lye scored a team-high 15 and grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds (eight on the offensive glass). She also finished with five assists.

Hight scored 14, collected nine rebounds and hit three of her six three-point attempts.

Lye and Hight were joined in bench production by junior point guard Karisa Cantu (San Antonio/MacArthur/Schreiner), who scored 14 points, delivered five assists and grabbed four rebounds.

Cantu, Lye and Hight were a combined 17 of 32 from the floor (53.1 percent).

Taylor Dydalewicz (Dripping Springs/Lake Travis) and Bianca Casas (Edinburg/Edinburg) each scored nine for TLU. Dydalewicz chipped in four rebounds, and Casas added two rebounds, two assists and two steals.

TLU out-rebounded Northwood 55-38 and held the Knights to 34.4 percent shooting from the field and to 19 percent from the three-point line. Northwood made just four of its 21 three-point attempts.

TLU opened a 44-25 lead at the half and led by as many as 26 in the second half.

B'ria Wagner led Northwood with 22 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Virginia Wright added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

TLU does not play again until Dec. 19. The Bulldogs host St. Ambrose (Iowa) at 6 p.m. that evening in Memorial Gymnasium.

The game with St. Ambrose is the first of three home games in three days for TLU. The Bulldogs host College of Wooster (Ohio) at 1 p.m. on Dec. 20 and face Northwood in Cedar Hill, Texas at 1 p.m. on Dec. 21.
