SHERMAN, Texas â€" The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team took Austin College to overtime, but a goal by Caleb Walters in the 98th minute gave the Kangaroos a 1-0 win on Sunday.
Â
Walters' goal came off an assist by Daniel Graham and was just the fourth shot on goal given up by the Texas Lutheran defense.
Â
The loss dropped the Bulldogs' record to 6-4 on the year and 3-4 in SCAC play, while the win improved Austin College to 3-6-2 overall and 3-3-1 in conference action.
Â
The goal was the first given up by the Bulldogs in more than two games' worth of play after shutting out Centenary on Friday.
Â
The Bulldogs controlled play and held the shot-taking advantage, outshooting Austin College 20-12 and getting eight shots on goal compared to the four for the 'Roos. The Bulldogs just couldn't find the back of the net with any of those shots as they were held scoreless by Austin College keeper Andrew Celio.
Â
Gabriel Sosa (Leander, Texas) led Texas Lutheran with four total shots and three on goal.
Isaac Lopez (Round Rock, Texas) was right behind Sosa with three shots.
Â
Sophomore goalkeeper
Jonathan Michael made three saves on the day before Walters' shot got past him for the game winner.
Â
The Bulldogs will kick off the second half of SCAC play next week as they play each conference opponent a second time. Their next game will come at home when they take on Centenary at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11.
