Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball drops pair to conclude SCAC regular season

SHERMAN, Texas â€" The Texas Lutheran volleyball program wrapped up its inaugural SCAC regular season with a pair of tough losses on Sunday at the hands of the University of Dallas and No. 8 Colorado College.

The Bulldogs were swept in both matches, falling 16-25, 15-25, 19-25 to Dallas and 27-29, 16-25, 12-25 to Colorado College.

The pair of losses drops the Bulldogs' overall record to 13-10 on the year and 7-7 in conference play. With SCAC play now concluded for all teams, the Bulldogs have secured fourth place in the conference and will take that four seed into the SCAC Women's Volleyball Championship in a couple weeks.

In Sunday's first match, the Bulldogs couldn't find momentum against a Dallas team hungry for a win. TLU hit just .095 on the day while Dallas .224.

The Bulldogs recorded just 32 total assists and two total blocks on the day. Manda Martin (Burnet, Texas), the Bulldogs' senior setter, recorded 23 assists, the fewest she's had since tallying 19 in a late-September match against Dallas.

Two TLU middle blockers, Ashtyn Duncan (Houston, Texas) and Katie O'Neil (Dallas, Texas) led the way with six kills each.

The weekend concluded with a tough matchup against a Colorado College squad ranked eighth in the coaching coming into the weekend.

The Bulldogs hung tough in the first set, forcing things into extra points before the Tigers came away with a 29-27 win. In that opening set, the Bulldogs actually had set point against the Tigers four times, but couldn't quite finish them off.

The offense was better against Colorado College as the Bulldogs finished with .195 hitting compared to .351 hitting for the Tigers.

Vanecia Spencer (Grandview, Texas) led the way offensively with seven kills on .250 hitting.

The blocking was better too, with Texas Lutheran notching five total blocks. Anna Keeling (Houston, Texas) had a strong game up front, recording six kills (.385 hitting) and two blocks.

Texas Lutheran has one more weekend of regular-season action on the slate. The Bulldogs will jump back out of conference play with three matches in Georgetown, Texas on the campus of Southwestern. They will play in the Southwestern SCAC/ASC Crossover Tournament and will take on Howard Payne, East Texas Baptist and Hardin-Simmons Nov. 1-2.
