ALPINE, Texas --
Brent Peavy threw four touchdown passes (three to
Lewis Williams II) as the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs moved to 5-0 with a 41-16 road win Saturday over Sul Ross State.
TLU stretched its overall win streak to six games, dating back to the final game of 2012. The Bulldogs, already champions of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, are 5-0 for the first time since 1976.
At Alpine's Jackson Field, Peavy (Houston/St. Pius X) threw touchdown passes of seven, 50 and 31 yards to Williams (Houston/Klein Forest). All three TD tosses to Williams came in the first half as TLU jumped out to a 21-9 lead at the break.
Williams recorded a career-best 184 yards on 11 receptions.
Bulldog linebacker
Adam McGuire (Houston/Cypress Falls) extended the TLU lead in the third quarter with a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown. McGuire intercepted two Lobo passes and finished with two returns for 65 yards. He also collected four total tackles.
Peavy's fourth TD pass of the day went for 40 yards to
Deion Barnes (Edna/Edna). The junior receiver caught his sixth TD pass of the season. Barnes has scored seven times overall in 2013.
Peavy capped the Bulldog scoring with a 10-yard scoring dash in the fourth quarter. The senior ended his day with 374 yards with 25 completions in 46 attempts. He was intercepted once.
TLU's defense held Sul Ross to seven second-half points. The Lobos (0-6) fumbled six times (losing three) and tossed two interceptions.
Sophomore safety
Ty Johnson (Orange/Orangefield) led TLU with 12 total tackles. Johnson also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.
Senior linebacker
Bradley Snowden (Houston/Seven Lakes) contributed seven tackles, a sack, 1.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.
The Bulldogs recorded seven tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and four sacks.
TLU out-gained Sul Ross 425 to 355. The Bulldogs threw for 386 and rushed for only 39. Sul Ross threw for only 60 and rushed for 295.
