SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran sophomore Chase Maus (Manor/Manor) has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for competition from Oct. 2 through Oct. 8.
Maus won the LeTourneau University Tempest Intercollegiate at Tempest Golf Club in Gladewater, Texas with a final round score of 2-under (70 on the par-72 layout).
Maus opened the tournament with scores of 78 and 74 on Monday before rallying to win. Four shots out of the lead entering Tuesday's final round, Maus birdied holes 13, 14, and 15 before bogeying 16 and posting pars on 17 and 18 to earn medalist honors.
Over the two rounds Monday and the final round Tuesday, Maus was +2 on par 3s, +5 on par 4s, and -1 on the par 5s. He was second in the tournament in number of birdies (nine), and he tied for ninth in total pars (31).
Maus and the Bulldogs finished fourth in the team standings at the Tempest Intercollegiate. TLU was six shots behind the tournament champion in a packed group at the top of the team leaderboard.
Maus is the second Bulldog to win SCAC Men's Golf Player of the Week honors this year. TLU senior Nathan Haley (Richmond/Foster) was the Week 2 Golfer of the Week.
TLU has two tournaments remaining in its fall golf season. Next Monday and Tuesday, the Bulldogs compete at Trinity's Alamo City Classic at The Quarry Golf Club in San Antonio.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Brodey Warner of Centenary placed third overall after shooting a final-round 76 at the Tempest Intercollegiate. He shot 79-72-76 for a three-round total of 227 (+11). Freshman Jake Sitterle of Schreiner finished tied for eighth in the 60-player field at the Tempest Intercollegiate with rounds of 80-74-76--230 (+14).
