SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team suffered its second conference loss of the season Friday night, taking a 3-2 defeat against Dallas in a rain soaked contest at Gustafson Field.
Dallas (5-7, 3-5 SCAC) got the scoring started early, striking in the 3rd minute to take an early 1-0 advantage. The Crusaders would shock the Gustafson Field crowd in the 15th minute as they doubled their lead to 2-0.
Texas Lutheran (5-8-3, 3-2-3 SCAC) responded in the 35th minute as Alex Isaacson (Round Rock/Round Rock) found Chris Cantu (Harlingen/Harlingen) to cut the lead in half and narrow their deficit to 2-1 entering halftime.
The Crusaders regained their two-goal advantage following a 61st minute goal. A foul in the penalty box yielded a penalty kick for the Bulldogs that sophomore goalkeeper Ernesto Avila (Houston/Humble) would step up to drill in the 83rd minute to shrink the Dallas lead to 3-2. The goal is the first of his career.
The Bulldogs were unable to find the late equalizer with a Carson Alldredge (Spring/Klein) shot in the 89th minute presenting the Bulldogs final scoring opportunity.
The two teams finished with 13 shots each with the Bulldogs maintaining a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bulldogs play their final match of the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 1, as they welcome the #22 Colorado College Tigers to Gustafson Field. After rain washed out the planned Senior Day festivities on Friday, the Bulldogs will recognize their four seniors on Sunday. Kick off is scheduled for 12 PM. The match will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available at tlubulldogs.com.
