ROCK ISLAND, IL -- The Texas Lutheran men's track and field team made their final attempt to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Division-III National Championships as the Bulldogs traveled a small contingent to Rock Island, Illinois, to compete in the Augustana Midwest Twilight Qualifier at Augustana University Wednesday evening.
Rickey Franks (Rockport/Rockport-Fulton) broke his own program record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.77 seconds to finish seventh.
Parker Cabra (Schertz/Randolph) established a new personal record with a career-best mark of 2.02m (6-07.50) to finish second in the high jump.
Braylen Brown finished third in the 400m dash, clocking in at 47.45 to finish third. Brown currently sits in 17th nationally entering the final weekend of the regular season as he attempts to qualify for nationals.
Brown joined the rest of the Freshman Four comprised of Gavino Ramirez (Alice/Alice), Eden Perez, and Caden Keller (McAllen/McAllen) as the group finished 15th with a time of 3:16.76.
Amir McClain (Converse/Veterans Memorial) finished with an official mark of 14.03m (46-07.25) which is a season-best for the freshman.
The 4x100m relay team comprised of Hezekiah McDow, Perez, Wyatt Wilson (New Braunfels/New Braunfels, and Weston Guzman (McAllen/McAllen), ran a season-best time of 41.42 seconds. McDow also finished 15th in the 200m dash with a time of 21.77 seconds.
Texas Lutheran now awaits the announcement of the NCAA Division-III Outdoor Track and Field National Championship field which will be announced on Friday, May 16, via press release. The championships run from Thursday, May 22 to Saturday, May 24 at the SPIRE Institute's Outdoor Track & Field facility in Geneva, Ohio. The Bulldogs have had at least one national qualifier compete in the national championships over the last six seasons. Senior Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan) will continue that streak as he is firmly into the national qualifying position at 11th in the nation.
