GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran track and field opened its outdoor season at the CenTex Invite this weekend in Georgetown - one of the first outdoor track and field events in the country this season.
It was a dominant start to the outdoor season for Texas Lutheran throwers, sweeping all the throwing events on Saturday.
Alexa Martin (Ingleside/Ingleside) and Julissa Rodriguez (Deer Park/Deer Park) took the top two spots in the javelin throw with Martin winning the event with a mark of 34.03m (111-8.00). Rodriguez followed in second place with a mark of 32.53m (106-9.00). The Bulldogs dominance continued into the discus as the Bulldogs also claimed the top two spots with sophomore Madison Wright (San Antonio/Lee) winning the event with a mark of 39.43m (129-4.00). Rodriguez would finish second in this event as well with a mark of 36.14m (118-7.00) before winning the hammer throw with a mark of 44.5m (146-0.00).
Emagen Styra (Nordheim/Nordheim) added a second place finish in the shot put with a mark of 10.84m (35-6.75).
Sage Bartlett (Buda/Johnson) finished third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.97 with Kamilah Tanner (Killeen/Robert M. Shoemaker) finishing close behind in fifth with a time of 1:08.71.
Taylor Norrell (Lake Jackson/Brazosport), who enjoyed a record breaking indoor season, opened her outdoor season with a fourth place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.83 seconds. Ciara Cavazos (Needville/Needville) finished fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.35 seconds.
The Texas Lutheran 4x100m relay team comprised of Norrell, Natalie Garcia (McAllen/McAllen), Katie Kostelnik (Hallettsville/Sacred Heart Catholic), and Mikayla Kidney (San Antonio, Texas/San Antonio Patriots) finished fourth with a time of 49.30.
