SEGUIN, Texas -- A dominant showing on both sides of the ball led Texas Lutheran to a 3-0 shutout victory over Centenary Friday night at Gustafson Field.
The Bulldogs (9-4-2, 7-1-1 SCAC) continue to cling on to first place in the SCAC with the win, leading #RV Colorado College by one point, while Centenary fell to 7-7-2, 5-4 SCAC.
Texas Lutheran created chances early and broke through in the tenth minute when
Evan Pacheco (San Antonio/Central Catholic) delivered a ball to Jesus Carillo (San Antonio/Reagan), who finished it for his fifth goal of the season.
Moments later,
Carlos Longoria (Brownsville/Rivera) found
Max Guzman (San Marcos/San Marcos) to double the Bulldogs lead in the 17th minute.
In the 79th minute,
DJ Sassenhagen IV (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) found the back of the net after an assist from Guzman for his first goal of the season.
Texas Lutheran's patented defense locked down the rest of the way, as the Bulldogs limited the Gents to seven shots and just three on target on the night to secure the convincing clean sheet.
For the fourth time this season, the Bulldogs finished with 20+ shots as TLU fired 22 shots at Centenary with ten shots on goal, while also holding a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Ernesto Avila (Houston/Humble) recorded two saves in the sixth shutout of the season and of his career.
