ABILENE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team (4-0-1) secured its second shutout of the season in a 1-0 win on the road over the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys (2-2-1) in Abilene to close non-conference play on Friday.

The Bulldogs have not recorded a loss in non-conference play over the last two seasons, going 13-0-1 in non-conference play over that span.

The lone goal of the contest came in the 33rd minute as DJ Sassenhagen IV (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) found Erick Lopez (Humble/Humble) who was able to place it in the high left corner for his first goal of the season. The goal and game-winner marks the second consecutive season in which Lopez has netted the game-winner for TLU against the Cowboys. The assist was Sassenhagen's first of the season and of his career.

Noel Pena (Houston/Cy-Falls) recorded his fourth win and second shutout of the season. Pena made three saves on the night. The shutout is the 20th of Pena's career, joining Jonathan Michael (26.5) in becoming just the second Bulldog in program history to record 20 shutouts in goal.

The Bulldogs outshot the Cowboys 15-12 with the Bulldogs maintaining a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Texas Lutheran will enjoy a two-week break before restarting their road trip and beginning SCAC play at #21 Southwestern on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7:30 PM in Georgetown. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
