SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Men's Soccer received two goals from Cameron Townes and recorded a 2-1 non-conference win Friday night against Concordia Texas in the season-opener for both squads.
Townes (Cypress/Cypress Ranch) scored in the 20th minute and again in the 30th minute. His first goal came off an assist from Braulio Adam (San Antonio/Lee). Townes' second goal came with an assist from Santiago Quinonez (Chihuahua, Mexico/New Braunfels).
Concordia cut the deficit to one with a goal in the final minute of play. Marco Vasquez scored unassisted with 23 seconds remaining in the match.
Freshman keeper Caleb Weed (San Antonio/Warren) made five saves in his collegiate debut.
TLU out-shot Concordia 9-4 in the first half. The Tornados applied the pressure in the second half, taking 12 shots to TLU's four.
The Bulldogs return to Seguin for Saturday's home-opener, an 8 p.m. kickoff agains the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
