SHERMAN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs won two out of three matches at the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tennis Championships and came home with a fifth-place showing.
TLU, seeded sixth entering the tournament, defeated fifth-seed Colorado College on Saturday 6-3 to claim fifth place in the SCAC.
In the win over the Tigers, TLU won matches at No. 1 doubles, No. 3 doubles, No. 2 singles, No. 4 singles, No. 5 singles, and No. 6 singles.
The senior doubles team of
M.P. Hubert (Riviera/Incarnate Word Academy) and
Madison Dyer (Marble Falls/Marble Falls) won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, and first-year player
Kaitlyn Enloe (Seguin/Seguin) teamed with junior
Samantha Stafford (Rockport/Rockport-Fulton) to grab an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Dyer won a three-set battle at No. 2 singles, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, and
Mary Eby (Rockport/Rockport-Fulton) registered a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles.
Stafford posted a 2-6, 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles, and Enloe scored a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
Earlier in the day, TLU defeated Centenary College (La.) 5-0.
In the win over the Ladies, Dyer and Hubert won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Eby and
Illeana Levy (Sugar Land/Travis scored an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Stafford and Enloe completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win.
Eby and Dyer secured quick 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 wins at No. 3 singles and No. 2 singles, respectively, to end the match at 5-0.
The Bulldogs started the tournament Friday with a 5-0 loss to Austin College, the No. 3 seed.
TLU finished the year with an overall record of 6-11. Saturday's matches were the final collegiate matches for TLU seniors Dyer and Hubert.
