SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Men's Soccer erupted for seven goals - the most scored by the Bulldogs since Oct. 16, 2010 - in a 7-0 non-conference win Tuesday over Howard Payne.
At TLU's Gustafson Field, the Bulldogs scored twice in the first half before netting five shots in the final 45 minutes.
TLU improved to 1-1. HPU dropped to 0-1.
Freshman midfielder
Nicolas Medina (Houston/St. Pius X) recorded a pair of goals, and freshman forward
Luis Green (Monterrey, Mexico/Smithson Valley), sophomore forward
Edgar Molina (Houston/Klein), and junior midfielder
Cole Welker (San Antonio/O'Connor) each collected a goal and an assist.
The Bulldogs also received goals from
Eduardo Lopez-Rivera (Round Rock/Stony Point) and
Avian Wares (Dumfies, Va./Melissa). Assists also went to
Braulio Adam (San Antonio/Lee),
Adam Smith (San Antonio/Churchill), and
Lance Radtke (Cedar Park/Cedar Park).
The seven goals scored by TLU are the most in a men's soccer game since the squad scored 10 in a 10-0 win over Louisiana College in 2010.
The seven goals is the most for the Bulldogs as a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
TLU took 20 total shots and had 15 shots on goal.
Brendan Soto made five saves in goal for TLU in nearly 71 minutes of action.
The Bulldogs start SCAC play this Friday with a 5 p.m. match in Shreveport, La. against Centenary College.
