GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran fell 2-1 to Southwestern University in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams Tuesday night.
At Southwestern's Varsity Field, the Pirates scored goals less than two minutes apart, at 26:46 and 28:02 in the first half.
Southwestern improved to 2-3 overall and to 1-0 in the SCAC.
TLU dropped to 0-5 overall and to 0-1 in the SCAC.
Jake Swonke and Christian Lopez recorded the goals for Southwestern. Lopez assisted on the Swonke goal, and Andres Mendez and Swonke assisted on the second goal.
TLU cut the deficit to 2-1 with a penalty kick goal from Victor Vasquez at the 75:50 mark.
The Bulldogs led in shots on goal, 12-8. Southwestern held a slight edge in shots on goal, 5-4.
Ryan Benner made three saves in 90 minutes for the Pirates.
Victor Rodriguez played the second half in goal for TLU and made two saves.
