SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran posted an important Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 defeat of the University of Dallas.
At TLU's Gustafson Field, the Bulldogs benefited from an own goal by the Crusaders in the 60th minute.
TLU remained in the sixth spot for the upcoming SCAC Tournament. Six teams advance to the conference championship tournament. TLU moved within one point of Dallas for the fifth spot.
On the scoring play, TLU freshman forward
Caleb Bronnenberg was the intended target of
Miguel Candelario on a pass into the Dallas box. Initially, Bronnenberg was credited with the goal. After some post-game consultation with both benches, the goal was changed to an own goal.
The Bulldogs made the goal stand. TLU keepers
Victor Rodriguez and
Brendan Soto combined on the shutout. Soto had three saves.
Tino Gamueda made three saves for Dallas.
Dallas edged TLU in total shots 16-12.
TLU improved to 4-11 overall and to 4-7 in the SCAC.
Dallas dropped to 7-7-1 and to 4-6-1 in the SCAC.
