SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Men's Soccer scored three goals in the first 16 minutes, 13 seconds of Sunday's conference match with Austin College and made the goals stand in a 3-1 victory over the Kangaroos.
At TLU's Gustafson Field, senior midfielder
Isaac Lopez scored on a penalty kick in the seventh minute and then knocked in a rebound of a second penalty kick (his own) to give the Bulldogs a quick 2-0 lead at the 11:15 mark.
Lalo Ramirez made it 3-0 with a short shot into the right corner after a pass from
Fabian Linares.
TLU gave up a goal at the 51:56 mark, and the Kangaroos had eight total shots in the second half as they staged a comeback. Thomas Quick with an assist from Jack Wheaton cut the Bulldogs' lead to 3-1.
Jonathan Michael made three saves for TLU as the Bulldogs improved to 8-4 overall and to 5-4 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Austin College fell to 4-10-1 overall and to 2-7 in the SCAC.
TLU has conference matches on the road next week - Friday at University of Dallas in Irving, Texas and Sunday at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo.
