In order to participate in intercollegiate athletics at Texas Lutheran University student-athletes must be covered by an insurance policy which contains no exclusions for injuries or illness sustained as a result of athletic competition. Coverage must be maintained throughout the year and have coverage limits of at least $90,000*. Without insurance, student-athletes will not be allowed to participate in intercollegiate athletics.
Texas Lutheran University Athletic Accident Policy
TLU provides a secondary insurance policy for its student-athletes. This policy does not qualify as the primary coverage required of student-athletes to participate in intercollegiate athletics. TLU will provide up to $500/year for deductibles and up to 30% coninsurace (maximum of $2500). The maximum financial responsibility from TLU will be $3000. For more information refer to the student-athlete handbook or the insurance addendum contained in the annual medical forms.
Need Insurance?
*For catastrophic injuries the NCAA sponsors an insurance program for all of its student-athletes. However, the deductible for this program is $90,000 and so it is required that a student-athletes basic coverage have limits of at least $90,000 should a catastrophic injury occur. This insurance program does not qualify as the basic coverage needed to participate in intercollegiate athletics. For more information you can visit
